China has mastered the key technologies for liquid-hydrogen-fueled aero-turbine propulsion.
Recently, it was learned from China Aviation Engine Group Co., Ltd.: Recently, the hydrogen energy aviation power team of China Aviation Engine Research Institute independently developed the AEP100 liquid hydrogen fuel turboprop engine, which completed ignition and performance debugging tests based on ground test environments. During the test, all indicators of the engine and liquid hydrogen transportation system were normal, operating stably in all states, achieving the first domestic megawatt-level liquid hydrogen fuel aviation engine meeting performance standards.
Liquid hydrogen, with its extremely high energy density and zero carbon emission characteristics, is considered an ideal path for deep decarbonization of the aviation industry. This test verified the technical feasibility of liquid hydrogen aviation engines, marking that China has overcome the key technologies of liquid hydrogen fuel aviation turbine power, laying a solid foundation for the transition of liquid hydrogen turbine power from the experimental stage to the engineering application stage.
According to the introduction, liquid hydrogen aviation engine technology is expected to be initially applied in scenarios such as unmanned aerial logistics and regional aviation, and later gradually extend to trunk aviation, activating a trillion-yuan industrial chain from green hydrogen production, hydrogen liquefaction, cryogenic storage and transportation to refueling infrastructure. This will drive collaborative innovation in high-end equipment manufacturing and new materials industries, forming a strong trend of strategic emerging industry development led by breakthroughs in advanced aviation technology.
