Over 3,640 metric tons of domestically produced green methanol were loaded in a single bunkering operation! Yangshan Port has set a new domestic record for ship-to-ship bunkering of domestically produced green methanol.
At 20:00 on March 5, the methanol refueling ship "Haigang Zhiyuan" docked at the Shengdong Terminal in Yangshan Port alongside the Malta-registered CMA CGM "Osimum" container ship, simultaneously refueling with domestically produced green methanol fuel during the loading and unloading of containers. The refueling amount reached 3,640 tons, setting a new domestic record for single ship-to-ship refueling of domestically produced green methanol.
Currently, the pace of green and low-carbon transformation in the global shipping industry is accelerating, the scale of green fuel fleets is continuously expanding, and the convenience of green fuel refueling has become one of the core elements measuring the international competitiveness of ports. In recent years, Shanghai Port has established a full-chain methanol fuel supply system covering production, storage, transportation, and refueling. The methanol refueled this time is domestically produced green methanol, made using biomass fermentation technology, and the production process meets the full lifecycle carbon emission standards. The refresh of the single ship refueling record demonstrates Shanghai Port's solid assurance capability in green methanol supply.
Recently, the Ministry of Transport and ten other departments jointly issued the "Implementation Plan on Supporting the Construction of Shanghai International Shipping Green Fuel Refueling Center and Trading Center," introducing a series of support measures from various aspects such as fuel production, refueling, trading, and supervision, injecting strong policy momentum for Shanghai to build a globally leading international shipping center and promote low-carbon transformation in the shipping field.
As the green energy refueling services at Shanghai Port become increasingly mature and convenient, coupled with the support of multi-department policies, more and more shipping companies choose to replenish energy at Shanghai Port. In January-February 2026, Shanghai Port completed 24 LNG refueling operations, with a refueling volume of 135,000 cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 33%; completed 6 methanol refueling operations, with a refueling volume of 23,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 137%.
The CMA CGM "Osimum" ship that docked this time was officially delivered in Busan, South Korea, on February 23, 2026, and is one of the 12 newly built 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ships by CMA CGM. Placing the first large-scale refueling after operation at Yangshan Port reflects the high recognition of international shipping companies for Shanghai's green energy refueling services.
During the refueling operation, border inspection and other port inspection units simultaneously followed up with supporting service guarantees. After the ship docked, three foreign shipowner representatives and two foreign shipyard engineers specially rushed to Yangshan Port to board the ship to understand the ship's maiden voyage operation situation. The Yangshan Border Inspection Station issued work permits for the ship and related personnel, provided boarding convenience, ensured the smooth conduct of refueling and subsequent commissioning, maintenance, testing, and other work, ensured the safety of ship navigation, and strengthened supervision during the ship's stay in port, creating a safe and orderly operating environment for the fuel refueling lasting more than six hours.
